As part of my blog’s semi-extreme makeover, the above animation is a collection of avatars, characters and original photos of your editor/publisher/photographer/technology champion /advice columnist. You can probably tell from my blog’s header that I kinda sorta like ‘em.

While I like the actual animation created with the easy as 3.14159 tool called Beneton Movie GIF Maker, I will make a new one tomorrow that uses jpeg’s as images not the compact gif files because the resulting movie’s images are not very good.

Diet Cola and Stephen King? A CA library goes underground

The Contra Costa County Library has entered into a partnership with BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) to provide a popular book ATM machine for its patrons.

The new Library A Go-Go  machines will go into a county BART station first, then into local shopping centers.

Truly bringing the library to the people!  First, drive thru libraries, now this.

Tinker, Tailor, Soilder, Spy

I know I have not had time to create a whole bunch of content these last few days. I have been working on a number of projects here at HCPL the last week or so:

Helping a couple of internal groups with wiki’s;
Starting Training on Delivering Synchronous Presentations;
Setting up one Kindle and working with my Kindle;
Working with our statewide MERLIN group;
Finishing my presentation for CIL2008;
Giving two trainings, attending one and developing one for next week;
started back to school; and
doing something like this to my blog—

I am in the process of redesigning the sidebar, moving my links to my del.icio.us and spiffying up the joint.

Just another week in the life.

Kindle for me?!? A Friday Morning Library Treat

Sometimes you hope, you dream and you wish. And sometimes that wish comes true. I wanted to try a Kindle since first hearing about them, but was not willing to shell out for one. I even posted a link to a review of them: kindle review. Now I can write one of my own.

This morning, I was selected as half of the team charged with “Get to Know the Kindle” by my truly forward thinking library system, Harford County Public Library.

Yippiee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course there will be more serious discourse in these pages in the future about it. My first impression is that it is small which is great, content such as many books, blog feeds, magazines and newspapers, have to be purchased or subscribed to.

I am looking for ways to get around that for now.

On the bright side, the screen is crystal clear and the browser is very cool.
